Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship, Goethe Institute's shortlist, plus recognition as among Top-100 Kenyans of 2o20 (Kenyans.co.ke.) have been important milestones in an academic journey that started in the rolling hills of central Kenya. Guided by a stubbornness of hope, a love for books, and an insatiable appetite for learning instilled by my loving parents, school years spent in Luhya and Luo regions of Kenya triggered many questions pertaining to languages in complex multilingual environments. The search for those answers led me to an undergraduate and graduate study of African languages and literature at the University of Nairobi, a second master's and doctoral degree studies in linguistics under the tutelage of the renowned sociolinguist, Professor Dennis Preston, at Michigan State University.   Inspired by Ngugi wa Thiong'o I have a passion for research and promotion of African languages. I have taught language and literature courses at Washington University in St. Louis. Michigan State University, and the University of Nairobi. Check out my publications.
